Kirk,
I understand completely. Pups want to play and have fun. They can get unruly at times. You may want to consider signing up for our club sponsored Ric Smith pup training seminar coming up on October 15-17, being held in Albany area. The club will be posting more on this event in the coming weeks. Enjoy your pup and hope we see you next year.

Billy,
Thank you for thinking of me. As I told Ryan Dollar, in response to his email, Tess was just not ready to be in a field trial environment in time for this year's trials. She is still very much a puppy. When she gets around adult dogs she just pesters and harasses them for attention. At the time she wasn't gun broke so I didn't want her around a lot of shotgun fire. I thought she would be a disruptive presence at those events. So I decided to wait until next season to bring her out. I really wanted to go, but I felt it just wasn't time yet.
But she is making good progress. Just 2 days ago I shot over her with a 20 gauge for the first time, after working up to it w/ smaller calibers, and she was fine.
And she also pointed and flushed a small bird for the first time that I have seen, while she was working through thick cover at the edge of a sorghum stubble field. The sparrow only held for about 3 seconds for her about 4 feet away. But it was good to see her pointing and chasing it. She is very enthusiastic and covers ground like crazy when I'm working her in the field. I think she'll be fine. She's only 5 1/2 months, so we have plenty of time to work and learn together. I hope I can do her justice with my novice efforts at training. Somehow I think we'll muddle through and train each other in the process.
I sure am enjoying her, in spite of her high strung puppiness. Thinking seriously of a second pup to keep her company.
Take care and I hope to see you at next season's events.
All the best, Kirk

Great weekend at El Consuelo. Let's do it again next year.
