Robert,
Afraid my training has been delayed by other demands and personal matters. Getting back on track now. Fortunate to have met award winning pro trainer Vance Butler from MI, who has published articles in Pointing Dog Journal, when he was in GA recently. He trains by the Smith method and was kind enough to work with me and my dogs one day. He also guides on quail in TX for the Smiths in the winter. He gave me good advice and showed me proper use of the short command lead. One thing he advocates is the use of a plastic barrel w/ short lead running up through the middle. Sit dog on top so that when it moves the barrel will tumble over w/ dog attached. Teaches them to sit still. After a while he will throw pigeons past dog and it will learn to stay steady. Interesting method. Haven't tried it yet. His website is modakakennels.net. He also recommends getting some homing pigeon cull birds from local racers, building coop,(plans avail. from Lion Country Supply for $5.) and 2 remote launchers. I plan to do that soon.

Thanks for the contact. Good luck with your training. Hope to meet you in the fall at trials and meetings. Take care,
Kirk
